The Campaign for Georgetown Hospital, Thursday May 24, 2012 4 Honorary Cabinet Rick & Josey Bonnette Fred Helson Mike Holmes Rick Bonnette Josey Bonnette Fred Helson Mike Holmes The largest expansion in 50 years Georgetown Hospital's Emergency Department was built of a size to handle 14,000 patients per year. Last year we cared for more than 32,000. Since almost two thirds of our patients are admitted through the Emergency Department, it is essential that this busy, vital department be expanded and Campaign Cabinet Paul Armstrong Dr. Robert Bourns Dr. Wei Chu Marc Henein Ken McDermot Cindy McDonell Shelley Phipps Ernie Rinomato Dr. Jeff Sutherland Laurent Thibault The people of Halton Hills quite rightly take a great deal of pride in their hometown hospital. As the heart of the community, Georgetown Hospital is consistently rated at or near the top of patient satisfaction scores across all of Ontario. With a growing community has come ever increasing patient volumes. With our aging community has come ever increasing severity of the cases we see. It's Georgetown Hospital's time to grow and provide the level of care this community needs and deserves. redesigned for maximum efficiency and quality of care. One of the most dramatic changes in modern medicine is the shift toward newer and faster diagnoses using advanced technologies such as CT. Throughout Canada CT scanning has increasingly become the standard of care for the diagnosis and treatment of numerous medical conditions. The lack of CT at Georgetown Hospital is not only sub-standard for our patients; it is a concern with regards to the recruitment and retention of family physicians, emergency medicine physicians and other specialists. Redesigning, expanding and integrating the Diagnostic Imaging Department in one unit alongside the Emergency Department and adding CT will improve wait times for diagnoses and treatment, enhance staff efficiencies and satisfaction, speed patient flow to and from inpatient wards, and improve patient outcomes for those who will no longer have to endure medical transport for access to CT. Georgetown Hospital's plans for expansion reflect the realities, complexities, space considerations and multi-disciplinary team approach to providing medicine in the 21st century. As Chief of Emergency, Dr. Justin Busse has noted, "our Emergency department is terribly undersized for our patient volume. In fact, we treat more patients per Emergency bed than any hospital in Ontario and gridlock occurs readily in periods of high patient volumes."
