7 The Campaign for Georgetown Hospital, Thursday May 24, 2012 Current Challenges Emergency Department (ED) · Current ED space at Georgetown Hospital (GH) is designed to adequately serve 14,000 visits a year. We are currently seeing over 31,000 visits Diagnostic Imaging (DI) · DI services are fragmented and located in a series of locations throughout the building · In 2010, approx. 1,500 patients were transferred from GH to other hospitals for CT Scans. Over 500 were Emergency patients who required a CT Scan for diagnosis · There are no estimates for the number of community referrals for CT Scans to other hospitals · Approval received in 2009 to purchase and operate a CT Scanner at GH · Limitations of the existing building condition are so great that internal renovations to accommodate the CT scanner are not practical or affordable · The expansion will allow for the creation of new, contemporary space for the Emergency Department, and will include purpose built space for the new CT Scanner · The renovated space will address significant clinical environmental concerns in the DI department including ultrasound, bone densitometry and mammography · Financially and operationally, it is more efficient to build new than to renovate · Proposed expansion will have the smallest impact, during construction, on the ongoing services of the existing hospital · Improved infection control · Enhanced privacy and security for patients, families and staff · Consolidated Diagnostic Imaging modalities · Capacity to grow in response to community needs Planning to-date · Established a Redevelopment Steering Committee to oversee project activities and report to the Halton Healthcare Services Board of Directors · Developed a comprehensive plan with the primary goal of improving the space within the Diagnostic Imaging and Emergency Departments · Acquired a licence to procure and operate a CT scanner · Updated Functional Programs for Diagnostic Imaging and Emergency · Established space requirements and workload/ activity projections for the next 10 years · Developed a Master Plan to demonstrate future growth opportunities at Georgetown Hospital Benefits · Creates a modern and efficient Emergency and Diagnostic Imaging environment built to current provincial standards · Creates a dynamic work environment that will assist in recruiting Emergency physicians and specialists · Availability of CT scan technology will reduce the need to transfer emergency and inpatients to other hospitals · Patient-centered and child-friendly environment Proposed Plan · The proposed design includes an expansion of approximately 14,000 square feet, and renovations to the existing building of approximately 4,000 square feet Rooms to be Named in the Georgetown Hospital Expansion in recognition of pledges of $25,000+ from the following donors Marg and Fred Helson CT Scanner Suite Georgetown Hospital Volunteer Association Women's Health Suite Dufferin Aggregates / Dufferin Concrete Waiting Room Georgetown Canadian Tire Family/Quiet Room Georgetown Canadian Tire Trauma / Resuscitation Room George & Verna Bird Ultrasound Room Tachmen Car Club Staff Room Georgetown Lions Club Acute Care Rooms (2) Georgetown Kiwanis Club Acute Care Rooms (2) RBC Mental Health Care Room Paul C.
