Photo by Ted Brown Students get bike safety refresher course following string of accidents in Acton By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Students at McKenzie-Smith Bennett School received a review of bicycle and pedestrian safety tips from Halton Regional Police Const. Laurel Barnett recently. Barnett, the Elementary School Liaison Officer for Halton Hills, was at the school following three recent incidents where Acton youths had been involved in collisions. On April 10 a kindergarten student at the school was struck by a vehicle as she crossed Acton Blvd. outside of the school. She wasn't injured. On April 12 an eight-year-old Acton girl suffered injuries when she was struck by a truck on Kingham Rd. after running out between two parked cars, and on April 19 a 12-year-old Acton boy on a bicycle rode into the side of a vehicle at Mill St. E. and Wallace St. His bicycle didn't have brakes. He wasn't injured. Barnett said she reviewed the safety tips with all classes at the school and told the students to make sure their parents were dropping them off at an area at school where they're allowed to stop.
