The week recognizes the contributions made by the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services related to transportation, water, wastewater and waste management. This year's theme is Public Works: Celebrating a Lasting Impression, which recognizes the lasting legacies that public works projects have in communities. Over the next four years in Halton, public works staff will play a critical role as $1.7 billion is invested into community infrastructure projects as part of the Building a Better Halton infrastructure plan," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. Carr said Halton public works staff provide a safe, well-managed transportation network, which includes 950 km of regional roads, 213 bridges and 220 signalized intersections. They also deliver safe, high quality drinking water through six Halton water purification plants and operate seven wastewater treatment plants. Halton Region has committed more than $670 million this year toward new construction projects for roads, water, wastewater and waste management projects.
