ALS Walk to be held Saturday Everyone is encouraged to take part, or sponsor someone, in the Acton/Georgetown Walk for ALS set for Saturday, June 2 at Dominion Gardens Park. Registration for the fourth annual Walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Christ the King Secondary School. The Walk has raised more than $520,000 in the past three years. The first year more than $250,000 came in, and last year the Walk brought in $180,000. Money raised goes toward helping those living with ALS, (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) a paralyzing neuromuscular disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Participants are walking for people like the Murray family of Georgetown. Scott Murray was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 at the age of 45. "ALS is an unforgiving disease," said Murray. "I had to learn, being Type A personality, that I couldn't control the timetable of the disease nor the progression on my body parts and voice. I have no say in what body part will stop working so I'm at the mercy of this disease." The WALK for ALS will take place rain or shine and the organizers have moved the Walk venue to Dominion Gardens Park in case of rain. To participate or donate to the Acton/ Georgetown Walk for ALS, contact Mary Jo at mknox2@cogeco.ca or go to www. walkforals.ca/ontario for more information. Donations raised through the WALK for ALS goes towards providing equipment and support programs for those living with ALS as well as funding research for a cure. The Walk for ALS is the largest annual fundraiser and the signature event for ALS Ontario, an organization that receives no funding from the government and relies entirely on the generosity of its donors. 3 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, May 29, 2012 37th Anniversary Massed Bands Cliff Climbing 78th Fraser Highlanders Massed Highland Fling Pictish Face-Painting The York Garrison, in period uniform, Scottish Country Dancing Floral Garlands will demonstrate drills including an eight Competitions: point salute and fire a musket volley. - Pipe Bands - incl.
