www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 13, 2012 · 14 Police make several arrests in Project Commute An Oakville couple is among those facing drugrelated charges after Halton police wrapped up an 11-month investigation into organized drug trafficking in Halton, Hamilton and Toronto, Monday. Dubbed Project Commute, the investigation saw undercover officers from Halton's Drug and Morality Unit make multiple purchases of cocaine from an alleged trafficker in Halton. After a subsequent investigation, police allege an organized network of individuals supported this activity. On Monday evening, Halton police made numerous arrests and raided various premises in downtown Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and Toronto. Halton drug officers were assisted by members of the Halton Guns & Gangs Unit, PAVIS (Provincial AntiViolence Intervention Strategy), PWEU (Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit), Halton RIS (Regional Investigative Services), Halton and Hamilton uniformed members, Halton TRU (Tactical Rescue Unit), Hamilton ERU (Emergency Response Unit), and Toronto ETF (Emergency Task Force). During these raids, police reported seizing three kilograms of cocaine as well as smaller amounts of oxycodone, ecstasy and marijuana. Police also reported seizing three illegal handguns, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, approximately $45,000 in cash and equipment used in the production of crack cocaine. Goun Im, 20, of Oakville faces charges of possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime (over $5,000). Pierre Kalata, 30, of Oakville faces charges of trafficking a controlled substance (cocaine), pos- session of a controlled substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking, conspiracy to import a controlled substance (cocaine) and three counts of breaching the conditions of bail. Others arrested in this operation include: Steven Baker, 25, of Hamilton, on trafficking and possession charges; Glen Thomas, 32, of Pickering, who faces possession charges; Brook Tenn, 28, of Hamilton, on charges of possession, producing a controlled substance, careless storage of a firearm and possession of firearms. Also charged is Joseph Sansone, 22, of Toronto, who faces trafficking and possession charges, conspiracy to import a controlled substance (cocaine) and firearms charges. Lindsay Coutts, 23, of Toronto, faces charges of possession, conspiracy to import a controlled substance (cocaine) and firearms. Drive One for the Oakville Fury team Oak-Land Ford Lincoln will host Drive One for the Oakville Fury U-14 A soccer team this Saturday, (June 16). The event aims to raise $6,000 in support of the team through Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd.'s Drive One 4 UR Community program. Those attending can test-drive a Ford vehicle -- for every person who test-drives a Ford-model car during the one day event, Ford of Canada and Oak-Land Ford Lincoln will donate $20 to the team. The event will be held at the Oakville Soccer Club, 1520 Pine Glen Rd., from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Each test-drive will last approximately seven-10 minutes -- participants must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver's licence. Flynn's annual BBQ Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn will host his 10th annual Community BBQ Thursday, June 21. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Flynn's constituency office at 2330 Lakeshore Rd. W., Unit 2. The barbecue will include hamburgers, hot dogs, cake, prizes, facepainting and a few surprises. Proceeds from the event will go towards helping Halton Women's Centre.
