18 ·The IFP· Halton Hills ·Thursday, June 14, 2012 Father's Day Sun. June 17th New lawn bowling members wanted The Georgetown Lawn Bowling Club, at the corner of William and Edith Sts., is looking for new members. "Lawn bowling has changed," said GLBC member Frank Anthony. "Just like its first cousin curling, it is a fun way to stay fit and meet friends. It also requires more skill than you think. You don't have to wear white. It is growing in popularity across Ontario because you don't need special equipment, it has a low cost of membership and is a whole lot of fun." The club is open to all ages for both ladies and men. It is both recreational and competitive depending on your preference. Over the season open bowling for members is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 7 p.m. On Tuesday prior to bowling, the club has a barbecue with the last Tuesday of the month set aside for a potluck supper. On the competitive side the club participates in 10 tournaments a year plus four ladies-only triples tournaments on Wednesdays, and three mixed pairs and triples, either on Saturday or Sunday and men's and ladies club championship. "Our doors are always open to new members who are always made very welcome by our friendly bowlers. This year will be our 106th of operation, a fact of which we are very proud," said Anthony. "Come on out and check us out."
