Race in honour of Drew Hildebrand Sunday By Nathan Howes SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The Drew Hildebrand Teen Benefit Fund (DHTBF) hopes to raise $40,000 at its fourth annual Race For Teens At-Risk run/walk June 10 to help turnaround teens pursue a better life. Held at Coronation Park, the fundraiser is in memory of 16-year-old Drew Hildebrand -- a T.A. Blakelock High School student who was a victim of teen violence four years ago. Money raised will help send Halton and Peel teens to a post-secondary school, once they've made a turnaround in high school. "We're trying to raise awareness that this is going on in our backyard. Parents are so busy, the teens are neglected. There's a big gap out there on where teens can go when they're stressed," said Kim Evershed, Drew's stepmother and a co-founder of the benefit fund that was founded by Drew's families, beautiful course." "It's starting at Coronation Park and heading west to Bronte Harbour. It's a flat course, it's not tough. It's a different route for the 10k versus the 5k," he said. "It's really different than some of the other races because we have so many high school students. A lot of people comment how they like to see the energy of the kids." The event will also feature live entertainment, graffiti art, raffle and a silent auction with assorted desserts dedicated to Drew "who loved sweets and OAKVILLE BEAVER FILE PHOTO candy," she said.
