- Francis Charles Bowring was born in Milton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowring. He enlisted in the air force in 1941. He was eventually attached to a squadron in Italy. His plane crashed near Termoli, Italy. He is buried in the Sangro River War Cemetery.
