Mom bound and robbed A 30-year-old Oakville man is facing charges after his 61-yearold mother was allegedly tied up and robbed at her Guildstone Crescent home Wednesday afternoon. Police were called to the home at around 3:30 p.m. after a neighbour reported hearing screaming coming from inside. "Police attended, approached the front door, opened it and observed a woman standing in the front hall," said Det. Sgt. Anthony Odoardi, Halton police. "The woman was bound with tape." Police said the woman had been robbed of her bankcard, PIN number, and her car, in which the suspect had allegedly fled. Officers untied the woman and she was taken to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with a suspected fracture of her arm. Police said the woman's vehicle was located abandoned near a TD Bank in the area of Third Line and Swim the Lake challenge today The local YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign is getting a surge of the Olympic spirit today (Friday). Canadian Olympic swimmers Sinead Russell (100-metre backstroke) and Colin Russell (freestyle relay) will join YMCA of Oakville staff, children and families of all ages for the eight annual Swim the Lake Challenge for YMCA Strong Kids. The event challenges participants to swim 311 kilometres -- the equivalent length of Lake Ontario -- in relay pool laps to support the centre's fundraising campaign. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign raises funds to help ensure everyone in the community, regardless of their financial situation, has the chance to participate in YMCA programs, camps and memberships. The goal is to raise $10,000 through pledges and fundraisers like the swim challenge. The event will also feature a photo and autograph opportunity with the Canadian Olympians. A canine unit was brought in to track the suspect's scent, but was unsuccessful. However, around 7:30 a.m. yesterday (Thursday) police said the suspect was located and arrested without incident when he returned to the Guildstone Crescent home. A 30-year-old Oakville man has been charged with robbery, forcible confinement, theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of breach of probation.
