Calling all Suzuki alumni for 40th anniversary Gala The Oakville Suzuki Association is celebrating its 40th year and its founder's 80th birthday and is calling on all alumni to help mark the occasion with a concert. The association is holding two Gala concerts on Wednesday, June 27 to honour the years of Suzuki Method musical education in Oakville and the woman who helped make it possible, Jean Grieve. Already a music teacher, Grieve founded the association in Oakville in 1972. So, the organization is calling on all its alumni to come out and perform at the Gala event. The first performance will be at 5:30 p.m. featuring current younger students at the school. This will be followed by a picnic at Lakeside Park. This will be followed by a second performance at 8 p.m. For this one, the organization is seeking its alumni to join the school's current senior students for a concert. The group will also be joined by a string orchestra made up of players of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra, of which Grieve is a playing member and a founding member. The alumni will be asked to rehearse on Sunday, June 24 at the Church of the Incarnation, located at 1240 Old Abbey Lane, at 6:30 p.m. Alumni are asked to register by visiting www.oakvillesuzuki.org. The Gala performance will take place at The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Oakville. The event will raise money for music tuition scholarships for families of children who would otherwise not be able to afford lessons. People can also sit in the audience. Tickets cost $20 for the 5:30 p.m. show or $25 for the 8 p.m. performance. Here are Dr. Rajan's top tips that for caring for sensitive skin: Do a patch test first If your skin is extremely sensitive, you should always patch test a new product on a small, inconspicuous area before using it on larger areas. You don't want to risk having a reaction all over your face, so test the new product and wait at least 24 to 48 hours to ensure you don't react. New products Introduce new products into your skin care regime one at a time so you can check for any adverse reactions. If you try more than one new product at a time you won't be able to know which one causes a reaction and could risk eliminating a good product. Hands off Even when your hands are clean they can transfer dirt, oils, and other potentially harsh irritants to your face--so try to cut down on the amount of times you touch your face. If your face itches or you need to wipe it, try using a clean tissue or cleansing wipe. Some wipes, like those in the Simple brand line, are specifically formulated for sensitive skin with no harsh ingredients. So if you need to touch your face you can do it knowing no dirt or oils will be transferred that could irritate your skin. Chill out "It is something people often forget," says Dr. Rajan "but your skin reacts to what is going on in your life." If you are stressed about something you are more likely to have a flare-up, so take a break and relax--your skin will thank you.
