GOLD AT NATIONALS: REPVOLLEYBALL The 14-under Black and 15U White teams won their respective tiers, while the 14U Blue, 15U Blue and 17U White squads claimed silver. Bronze medals went to the 16U Blue, 16U Boys Blue and 18U Blue teams. The 16U Boys Blue (the Thunder's first-ever boys' team), 18U Blue, 17U White and 14U Black squads were formed this season. The 14U Blue, 14U White and 15U Blue went on to earn silver medals at the East Coast Championships in Pittsburgh the following weekend. Lakeside U17 girls finish second in Tier 1 Lakeside Volleyball Club's under-17 girls' team finished second overall in its age group at the same national indoor volleyball championships. Seeded ninth in the Tier 1 division after earning silver at provincials, Lakeside defeated teams from Winnipeg, British Columbia and Quebec in the opening round. Lakeside then upset the Alberta Pandas in the quarter-finals and the Ontario Predators in the semis, both wins coming in straight sets, before falling 2-0 to the Durham Attack in the championship game. Lakeside's Joanna Jedrzejewska was named the MVP of the tournament in recognition of her tenacity and high level of performance throughout the competition. Also contributing to Lakeside's strong showing were Leah Lowe-Davies, Roberta Dunlap, Rebecca Forbes, Sarah The Oakville Thunder 15-U White team recently won its division at the Canadian national indoor volleyball championships. Members of the team are Andreina Valentini, Montana Maciel, Stephanie Hilchey, Jessica Galli, Julie Todaro, Hannah Delany, Karen Loh, Erica Rzepecki, Taylor Incze and Milkela Lehan. Kelly Fox and Joe Maciel coach the team. Clark, Katie Venturi, Megan Williams and Aleks Arsovic. Bear Davies, Gord Rodwin, Vic Lewis, Steve Leoni and Leslie Nunes coach the team. Local trio on champion Hurricanes team Also at the national indoor volleyball championships, three Oakville players helped the Halton Hurricanes under13 Black team win its division. Brooke Davis, Ivy Gibson and Sophia Sartor were part of the Hurricanes team that won Division 3 of the U14 age group. After going 3-3 in pool play, Halton defeated a Saskatchewan team 25-9, 25-21 in the semifinals and beat the Ottawa Maverick Revolvers 27-25, 20-25, 18-16 in the championship game. Reduce Reuse Recycle Squirt Angels claim silver in Guelph The Oakville Angels squirt 01 softball team won its first five games to reach the championship game of the Guelph Gators Classic Fastpitch Tournament earlier this month before settling for silver. The Angels led the host Guelph squad by a run through four innings of the final, but eventually fell 13-3. Oakville defeated the Kitchener Klassics Green, Kitchener Klassics Gold, Halton Hawks, Waterloo Ghosts and Oakville Angels 1 earlier in the tournament. Tori Allingham, Lisa Papara, Sydney Turner and Sydney Lee received MVP awards during the tournament. Also contributing to the silver-medal showing were Lauren Beattie, Sara Ceresia, Meghan Conn, Lauren Greco, Jessica Hartley, Kelly Hubbs, Olivia Vella and Ashley Taciuk.
