The Patient Relations Office assists patients and families to ensure their experience with Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is a positive one. Whether you are looking for information, looking to resolve an issue or looking for someone to listen and support you, the Patient Relations Advisor (formerly known as the Ombud) is your advocate within the hospital. We suggest that you first discuss your concern with your nurse, the department manager or your doctor. If the concern remains unresolved, the Patient Relations Advisor is available to help you. The Patient Relations Advisor is a neutral person, hired by the hospital, who acts in an objective way to work with you and the hospital staff to find answers. Confidentiality is maintained during the process. Be assured that your care, or future care, will not be negatively affected by bringing your concerns forward. The Patient Relations Advisor manages the Patient Feedback Program at HHS and shares your complimentary feedback with the CEO, hospital staff and physicians. Office hours are from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Concrete Pouring Sets Firm Foundation for New Hospital On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation, joined Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and hospital officials at the construction site of the New Oakville Hospital to celebrate the pouring of concrete that will solidify to form the foundation of Oakville's new hospital. The foundation slab for the new hospital will use more than 5,430 cubic metres of concrete ­ enough for 2.2 kilometres of sidewalk. Currently, there are more than 200 workers on site daily and at the peak of construction there will be more than 1,100. OHVA Donates $300,000 to the Hospital The Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association (OHVA) celebrated their accomplishments at their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 30th. This year the OHVA contributed $300,000 to the Hospital, marking their third installment of their ten-year $3 million pledge for the New Oakville Hospital. Thank you! The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal recognizes and honours outstanding community leaders who have dedicated themselves to service for their fellow citizens, their community and country. Dr. Jeff Sutherland was awarded a Medal earlier this year. Dr. E.P. `Soapy' Soanes Award Dr. James Kovacs was this year's recipient of the Dr. E.P. `Soapy' Soanes Award. This award was established in recognition of the first Chief of Staff, and longstanding member of the Department of Family Medicine at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). It is awarded to a Family Physician at OTMH who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Hospital and Community in the areas of clinical practice, community health, hospital programs, continuing medical education and community involvement. Seeking Leadership Volunteers The Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association (OHVA) is looking for Convenors for a range of volunteer services to help oversee the activities of the volunteers in their areas. Responsibilities would include scheduling, training, and acting as communication liaison between the OHVA, staff and front-line volunteers. Convenors are members of the OHVA Board of Directors.
