No easy route to Ontario Jr. B final Continued from pg. 1 The Indians defeated the Bulldogs 15-11 here back on May 5 when Halton Hills was without several of its current starters, but Akwesasne will be a formidable opponent for anyone, nonetheless. With a number of Bulldogs having moved up to Jr. A this season, including big defender Brad Kri, forward Jordan Dance and goalie Ryan Kelly, some newer faces have taken on bigger roles. Rookie Connor Brown led the team in power play markers with 11 and finished the campaign with 37 goals, while second-year defenceman Brandon Clelland has thrived in a prime-time role. No longer in a platoon system with Kelly, which worked so successfully the past two years, towering goaltender Dustin Hanzelka has been a steadying force on many nights, recently earning call-ups to the Bulldogs' Jr. A affiliate, the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen. But experience has been a big part of the 'Dogs' long postseason runs over the past few years and they'll need it in spades again. There may be a lot more comfortable places to be than in an arena on a humid summer evening, but for the hundreds of loyal Bulldog fans, there's no place they'd rather be. "Let's go out with a bang. One more (championship) would be really nice," said Bulldogs' captain Kody Lyons, in his fifth and final season with Halton Hills. "Since my rookie year, I think I've been to a final every year and it's been great to be a part of. That shows just how good our minor system is. People move on and younger players step in. There's nothing better than playing in front of your home crowd in a packed barn, with local guys in the lineup. This is the time of year we love because you work so hard to get here." The Rebels will host teams from across Canada at Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Aug. 14-19 and the Halton Hills Bulldogs plan on winning their second national championship in three years. The Bulldogs took the title in 2010 and came within one game of returning to the tournament last year, but lost in the Ontario final in a fifth-and-deciding gamein Six Nations to the Rebels in a game that was abandoned with a minute remaining due to a full scale brawl on the floor. "We've got to get there first, but that's the goal," said third-year goaltender Dustin Hanzelka. "Once we get into the playoffs, I think it's a matter of coming out with all guns firing. We know the talent's here and we've done it before. We just have to put it all out on the floor." With the Rebels earning an automatic berth as the host, an additional spot in the tournament will be awarded to an Ontario team. Six Nations went 18-2 during the regular season and is looking to defend its 2011 Founders Cup title, so if the Rebels return to the Ontario final, their opponent will automatically gain entry into the national championship.
