The 25-year-old Georgetown native was officially announced as a member of Canada's goldmedal-contending women's 8s rowing team that will compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London beginning late this month. In 2010, Nurse deferred her final year in the University of Ottawa's graduate law program in order to train for rowing full-time at the National Training Centre in London, Ont. "Over the past several years this has been the dream that has motivated the hours of training, deferral of studies and the sacrificing of other commitments, so I am so happy and proud to be part of this amazing group," the Georgetown District High School graduate said. The women's 8s team is just one of several strong Canadian medal hopes in rowing at the Summer Games in London. At the World Rowing Cup in Switzerland in late May, the Canuck 8s were edged out for the gold medal by the U.S. in a photo finish and the team earned silver medals at both the 2010 World Rowing Championships and the 2011 World Rowing Cup, earning Canada a berth in Centre rowing club on Thursday (June 28) in London, Ont. the 2012 Summer Games.
