Champs Saturday event to boost environmental awareness The Oakville Chamber of Commerce and other community partners are teaming up to promote and encourage care for the environment. "Oakville is our home, so let's take care of it," is the message of the fourth annual Environmental Awareness Day Saturday, July 7, to be hosted at the Tim Hortons at 111 Cross Ave. (Trafalgar Village). "It is so rewarding to see how this grassroots event has expanded with more partners and volunteers to assist us with such a worthwhile cause," stated Wendy Rinella, Oakville Chamber of Commerce chair, in a press release. "Raising awareness about recycling and greener living, as well as participating in a neighbourhood clean-up, benefits us all." The event is a partnership between the Chamber, Tim Hortons, Kerr Village BIA, along with the Home Depot Children's Workshop, M&M Meat Shops, Gear or Tech and Shred-It. Those who attend will be able to visit green exhibits, participate in a community cleanup, confidential document shredding, electronic recycling, children's activities and a raffle. Those who volunteer for the community cleanup will receive a complimentary T-shirt, barbecue and refreshments. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBSH). Youths who completed 30 hours of community service by cleaning up local parks and schools or assisting a local community group were selected by BBBSH and will be recognized by the Tim Hortons annual Earn a Bike program. Registration on the day begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by the event from noon-2 p.m. 9 · Wednesday, July 4, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com PHOTOS BY ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVER at lawn bowling club: The Oakville Lawn Bowling Club held its annual CHAMP day for War Amps last weekend.
