www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, July 4, 2012 · 20 Second in Canada Sr. B Titans lead division heading into final game Going into the final weekend of the regular season, the Oakville Titans hold a two-point lead for top spot in the Ontario Lacrosse Association senior B loop. Oakville (10-5) holds that slim lead over the St. Catharines Saints, Norwood Champs and Brooklin Merchants, all of whom have a game in hand on the Titans. Norwood and Brooklin have two less wins than Oakville, however. The Titans moved into first place with two wins last weekend, 8-6 over the Owen Sound North Stars Friday in Owen Sound and 9-8 over the Huntsville Hawks Saturday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Oakville will conclude its regular-season schedule this Friday with a home game against Brooklin, an 8 p.m. start at Glen Abbey. St. Catharines, meanwhile, will conclude its slate with games against Sarnia (5-9) and Huntsville (0-13). Nicholas Grasby led the Titans in Friday's win over Owen Sound, collecting three goals and an assist. Mike Gillan, Kyle Humber, Simon Desousa, Ken Coulson and Dan Hamlett also tallied for Oakville, which trailed 3-0 after one period before rallying. John Preece earned the victory in net and also added three assists. Saturday, the Titans got twogoal efforts from Stu Gordon and Grasby to edge the winless Hawks. Craig Blinkhorn, Jeff Sehl, Miller Rusbridge and Callen Kitson also scored in support of winning goaltender Scott Robinson. SILVER AT NATIONALS: The Lakeside Volleyball Club's under-17 girls' team finished second in the top tier at the recent national indoor volleyball championships in Toronto. "Everyone's clicking well. There's good chemistry on the team right now." Bentivegna and Buzz head coach Sam Rook pointed to White and Nakasuji as two keys to the club's improvement since the midpoint of the season. The two veterans were still at their respective universities when Oakville went 5-4-1 in its first 10 games. "Once we got everyone back, we've been jelling together," said Bentivegna. Rook likes the balance of youth and expe- rience his club has. "The young kids have shown a lot of enthusiasm," said the coach, "and the old guys have really provided the leadership." Start times for this weekend's games at Glen Abbey had not been finalized as of press time, but they were tentatively penciled in for 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The distance between Oakville and Akwesasne (nearly 500 kilometres) necessitates one team hosting the first two games of the series and the other hosting the remaining games. As the higher seed, the Indians had the right to choose whether or not to be home to the first two games or to host the rest of the series.
