The website -- www.halton.ca/ trafficsignals -- offers residents a chance to see what the Region is doing to improve traffic flow across Halton, while also providing viewers with the opportunity to play an interactive online traffic control game. Gridlock Busters players use some of the principles traffic control engineers use everyday at work to help time signals. Developed by the Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute at the University of Minnesota, the game allows players to work through a series of levels by controlling traffic and ensuring the delays don't get out of hand. Meanwhile, the new website also provides the latest info on what the Region is doing to keep traffic flowing. Halton has 220 intersections with timed signals to reduce congestion and delays, which in turn saves on fuel and reduces air pollution.
