Be water wise in summer Halton Region is reminding people to be mindful of their outdoor water use this summer to ensure there is enough water for essential and emergency services. Due to early-season warm temperatures and low snow and rainfall this year, water levels have been reduced. This has made water conservation important this summer. The Region has an Outdoor Water Use Program, which people can follow. It consists of a numeric and colour-coded system, with three levels of outdoor water use based on criteria such as water demand, water treatment reservoir levels, aquifer levels (groundwater) and weather patterns. "Water consumption can double in the summer months making it very important for residents to ensure they are aware of Halton's water restriction levels in order to reduce water consumption when required," said Halton's Region Chair Gary Carr, in a news release.
