www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, July 27, 2012 · 32 Locals win world inline hockey silver Oakville residents score big Oakville's Marcus Pryde and Dylan Ellis recently helped the Canadian men's team earn its first world inline hockey medal in three years, a silver at the Federation Internationale de Roller Sports championships in Colombia. Canada won its first five games, including a 5-4 overtime win over Italy in the semifinals, before falling 6-4 to the United States in the championship game. Pryde tied for seventh in the tournament scoring race, notching seven goals and three assists in six games. The 24-yearold played professional ice hockey last season in Europe with the Heerenveen Flyers. Ellis, 22, was selected as the top goaltender of the tournament. He played NCAA hockey with SUNY-Potsdam last year. Despite competing in a higher age division, Oakville's Samantha Creighton and teammate Olivia Roscoe went undefeated to win the 18-under Division 1 title at an Ontario Volleyball Association beach volleyball tour event earlier this month in Sauble Beach. Creighton and Roscoe, the lowest seed in the nine-team division, defeated a Port Samantha Creighton Stanley squad 21-9, 21-11 in the final. The championship earned the Halton Hurricanes members 350 points each towards their respective rankings for the upcoming provincial championships at beach volleyball tour event (although Creighton and Roscoe will play with different partners at the all-Ontario meet). A 15U Division 1 title would have earned the players 250 points each. Fellow Halton Hurricanes players Sierra Hardy and Sofia Gligoric finished third in 18U Division 1, earning 300 points each. Another Hurricanes team, Amanda Harnett and Mandy Adoranti, Sierra Hardy earned gold in 18U Division 2 play. Hardy is an Oakville resident, Roscoe and Harnett are from Burlington, Gligoric lives in Stoney Creek and Adoranti resides in Hamilton. Richard Eyram was seventh overall (2:03:08). In the Olympic race, Troy Stenback placed 26th overall, finishing in 2:11:08. Alexander Dos Santos placed 19th in the sprint event with a time of 1:08:41.
