Submitted photo Purrfect pals looking for a home By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Anyone looking for a kitten will have lots to choose from at a Special Kitten & Cat Adoption Day held by the North Halton Kitten Rescue (NHKR) Saturday. The non-profit organization, that was founded last June, will have 18 kittens and cats up for adoption at the event held at Acton Arena from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barb Johnson of NHKR said, with this being kitten season, they are overrun with them this time of year. "The list for kittens waiting to be surrendered is growing every week," said Johnson. "Last week alone there were five new litters of kittens identified as needing placement in our foster homes." She said the public can help by adopting the kittens that are ready to go, allowing the organization to take in outstanding litters and assist people in the community who have taken in stray/abandoned kittens. "Out of desperation, people offer free kittens which often end up not being spayed/neutered and then produce more kittens," said Johnson. "Other kittens not taken into rescue care are left to fend on their own: dying, eaten or road kill. The ones that survive multiply and add to the overpopulation of feral cats, especially in the urban areas." Kittens available from NHKR have age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite control, microchips, are spayed/ neutered, go home with a bag of food and are adopted to approved homes for $160 (cash only).
