This week, the Oakville Public Library launched its eighth annual Write2Xpress Contest -- and it's going to be bigger and better than ever. Not just for authors of the short story genre anymore, Write2Xpress now welcomes poets and graphic short story novelists as well. Graphic artists and novelists can also team up to submit one creation if they please. Open to Oakville students in Grades 7 through 12, the contest opened on Wednesday, Aug. 1 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10. It doesn't matter if you like to write short stories, poetry, or graphica -- all forms of creative writing are welcome. Registration dates for schools The Halton District School Board is giving families additional dates to register their children for school in areas where new homes are being built. This is meant to help accommodate families with students moving into homes that are closing this summer. In Oakville, Garth Webb Secondary School will have a number of registration dates running from Aug. 7-10 and Aug. 13-17. Registration will be open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on those dates. The school is located at 2820 Westoak Trails Blvd. Several schools in the other Halton municipalities will have similar registration dates. In Milton, those schools are Craig Kielburger Secondary School, Escarpment View Public School, P.L. Robertson Public School and Milton Public School #8.
