The organization is co-hosting its second annual Heritage Walk event on Sunday, Sept. 9 in partnership with the Oakville Historical Society. There will be two time slots. The first starts at 1:30 p.m., followed by a second at 2 p.m. People will walk Oakville's historic main street. The society's guides will discuss the architecture and stories of Oakville's business section along Lakeshore Road. The walks begin at the society's office, located at 110 King St. Each one lasts approximately an hour and ends with refreshments. The local grandmothers group is one of 240 such groups that make up the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. They aim to raise awareness, build solidarity and mobilize support in Canada for African grandmothers and the orphaned children in their care. Since 2003, the Stephen Lewis Foundation has funded more than 700 initiatives with 300 community-based organizations in the 15 African countries hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
