Mayor playing to fight cancer Oakville Mayor Rob Burton will team up with hockey guru Kevin Huhn in an effort to make cancer history. Burton announced Thursday the duo will participate in Princess Margaret's annual Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer event, which will occur at Ontario Place on Sept. 29. The pair will be part of a team that will play in the second annual dawn-to-dusk marathon tournament. The event is designed to raise essential funding for personalized cancer medicine at Princess Margaret Hospital and vital cancer research at the Canadian Cancer Society. Registered teams of eight to 12 players, 16 years of age and older, will play at least five games of road hockey throughout the day. "Growing up playing road hockey was a part of most Canadians' pastime, so playing with other GTA mayors is a thrill," said the mayor. "A lot of people know someone affected by cancer. So, being able to participate alongside other community mayors and fight alongside each other against this disease, is something I am proud to say, I was the first to say -- `I am in.' This is a wonderful initiative and signifies people coming together." Celebrities, food, refreshments and entertainment are all part of the fundraising day to be presented by Boston Pizza. Burton will benefit from having Huhn, a known hockey-ologist on his team. Huhn is a Canadian author and leading authority in grassroots hockey. He is the co-founder of the Hockey Source that has a weekly radio show on Toronto's TSN 1050 and TEAM 1410 in Vancouver.
