But Oakville Town councillors warned the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) they would only sign a gaming agreement if specific conditions were met -- and they meant it. Town council voted Monday to hold off on signing the OLG's Charitable Gaming Centre Agreement (CGCMA) until Mayor Rob Burton has the chance to lead discussions with the mayors and councillors from other Ontario cities about making changes to the Mayor Rob Burton OLG contract. The outcome could have a detrimental ripple effect on the local bingo hall -- and the local charities that use it to raise funds. The agreement is part of the OLG's revitalization initiative designed to preserve and enhance bingo revenue for local charitable organizations, however, some aspects of the contract and the OLG's unwillingness to change these features have raised concerns. "A standard agreement assumes that all partners have the same goals," said Burton. "The OLG is firm that it will not incorporate revisions to its standard form agreement to accommodate issues identified by Oakville. As municipalities, we must unite to develop terms that work best for our communities. Unfortunately, without this flexibility, we are in a `take it or leave it' position."
