Clarke was awarded the Honorary Life Membership at the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) annual meeting. The award is the ETFO's highest form of recognition, according to an ETFO press release. It is given to members who have retired from the education profession and who have given outstanding service to the federation. Clarke began her 42-year career in educa- tion as a teacher in Halton, and retired in 2010 as principal of Park Public School. She served on the executive of the Halton Women Teachers' Association (WTA) in 1994, and become its president in 1996. In 1997, she became the first president of the Halton Teacher Local. She joined the provincial executive of ETFO in 1999 and was elected as a vice-president in 2002. "ETFO's Honorary Life membership is yet another indicator of the respect that the federation community has for Kathy's outstanding work on behalf of teachers throughout her career," said ETFO President Sam Hammond in the release.
