Maxi was surrendered to the shelter back in March 2011 after her owners were no longer able to afford to care for her. "This is becoming more and more of a reality," said Brenda Dushko, spokesperson for the OMHS, in a news release. "Increasingly families have to give up a much loved family pet and we are glad we can be here to help them through the process and find the pet a new home." Maxi is a true hound and was more interested in the sights and smells around her than meeting a potential adopter during her stay at the shelter. And so, she waited in the shelter. She also became a favourite of her walkers. Her day to leave the shelter came when she met the perfect match in Shannon Syring and Rachel McReavy who embraced her beagle attitude. OMHS is a low-euthanasia shelter where every pet is part of the shelter family until it becomes part of a forever family, however long it takes. The OHMS is a registered charity, which is able to do its work through the generosity of the community.
