The move must still be approved by Regional council Wednesday (Sept. 12). The Palmer Park neighbourhood has been chosen specifically because of its close proximity to the Emterra Material Recovery Facility, which processes blue box materials. The program -- which is operated in partnership with Stewardship Ontario, Emterra Environmental and Miller Waste Systems -- will evaluate the potential benefits of including paper laminated cups in the blue box program and the impact it has on the Region's waste diversion program. Data collected from the project will be shared with other municipalities across Ontario to determine whether incorporating One Halton neighbourhood may be able to include paper laminated cups in its blue boxes starting later this month as part of a new pilot project.
