Driver in serious condition A school bus driver remains in serious condition after an accident occurred near Bronte Harbour yesterday morning. Halton police said a sudden medical issue may be the cause of the accident, which took place at Bronte Road and Marine Drive at about 7:50 a.m. Thursday, when the bus veered off the road, mounted a curb, struck a tree and then smashed through an iron fence before stopping atop a retaining wall next to Bronte Harbour. Police said there were two children, aged seven and 11, on the bus at the time of the accident. Neither was injured. The children's parents were made aware of the accident and attended the scene. The bus driver, a 62-year-old Burlington man, was unresponsive at the scene and rushed by emergency crews to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. From there, he was transferred to the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga where he remains in serious condition. The Collision Reconstruction Unit (C.R.U.) has taken over the investigation. Bronte Road, between Lakeshore Road and Marine Drive, was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the investigation took place. The bus, operated by Burlington-based Attridge Transportation Inc., has been seized by police and will be undergoing a mechanical inspection as a routine part of the investigation. The retaining wall and fence are being inspected by Town of Oakville officials. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no other injuries were reported. Police will not be releasing the names of the driver, students or the destination school. While several witnesses have already come forward, police are asking any other witnesses to contact the C.R.U. at 905-825-4747, ext. 5065. 905.827.7000 Pharmacy next door 2524 Third Line, Unit C2 Oakville.
