Community comes together to host a car seat safety clinic on Sept. 22 The Bronte Creek Community Residents' Association, Oakville Acura and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are inviting residents to participate in a child car seat safety clinic on Saturday, Sept. 22. The event will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Oakville Acura dealership, 1525 North Service Rd. W. It will provide an opportunity to speak with experts who can answer questions and make sure those present have the right car seat and that it is properly installed. There is no shortage of reasons to hold the free clinic as organizers report the No. 1 cause of death for Canadian children is automobile accidents. They also pointed out that recent reports found 90 per cent of child safety seats are not properly installed. When used properly, a child safety seat can reduce the injuries a child sustains in an accident by 75 per cent and increase the child's chance of surviving an accident by 90 per cent. Those who attend the clinic can also feel what it's like to be inside a car when it rolls over in an accident, thanks to a roll-over simulator, which will be present. The simulator is intended to help residents understand the importance of car seats and seatbelts. Those interested in attending the community car seat clinic, are asked to contact Bronte Creek Community Residents' Association General Secretary Kim Hussey at 416-597-3422, ext. 3693, Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
