www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, September 13, 2012 · 32 Trinity seniors open high school football season tomorrow By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR FLYING HIGH: The Oakville Design Republic Angels novices won their interlock league title last weekend. Novice Angels team wins interlock title The Oakville Design Republic Angels novice team posted a 13-6 win over Burlington's BASA 1 last weeknd to win the 10-team interlock fastpitch championship. Oakville finished the interlock playoffs with a 4-1 record after going 5-4-2 during the regular season. The Angels outscored their opponents 68-28 in postseason play. Members of the Oakville team are Laura DelleDonne, Madison Donohoe, Charlotte Vann, Katherine Topping, Annika Sharma, Maia Hoban, Nicole Pfeifer, Abbey Lynch, Carlie Lukasik, Breanna Parent, Kayla Christoffer, Lauren Montanari and Hannah Beddard. Bruce Parent, Marcello Montanari and Mario Delle-Donne coach the Angels. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2012 Start & Finish Lake O on ntario His team hasn't even played a down this season, but Joe Moscato already knows at least one thing about his Holy Trinity Titans squad. "It's a very good group of kids. They work hard," said the longtime Trinity senior football coach. "It's a real tight-knit group and a pleasurable group to coach." Tomorrow (Friday), Moscato will likely learn a few more things about his team as the Titans host the M.M. Robinson Rams to begin the high school football season. Kickoff at Trinity is slated for 3:30 p.m. The Titans return several impact players from last year's team, which went 5-2 during the regular season before falling 31-7 to the Corpus Christi Longhorns in the Halton semifinals. The early playoff exit snapped a two-year run of Halton final appearances by the Titans. Second-year senior Michael Brooks is back at quarterback, and Toluwa Fayemi will once again be in the Titans backfield. Hoping to open holes and protect Brooks and Fayemi will be a strong offensive line that includes Dan Sprukulis and Tyler Cordeiro, both of whom are already garnering interest from university scouts. Jason Uleryk-Carvalho and Will Ellis highlight an influx of talent from last year's junior team as the Titans look to fill the holes left by graduates such as Declan Cross and Shaka Fonderson. "Those guys, I don't know whether we'll be able to replace them," Moscato said of Cross and Fonderson, who were two-way stars on last year's team. "We'll just have to change what we do so that we don't miss them so much." Unlike last season, when the Nelson Lords toyed with the Halton league en route to winning the provincial championship, Moscato anticipates a very competitive Tier 1 regional loop this year. The first challenge will be M.M. Robinson, which has already played an exhibition game -- a 35-23 road loss to an Ohio squad -- this summer. "The first game will be a good measuring stick for us. (Robinson) is very well coached with a lot of returning players. We'll have our hands full," Moscato said. The Loyola Hawks are the only other Oakville team that will compete in the Tier 1 league. Loyola will open its season Tuesday with a home game against the Bishop Reding Royals. Kickoff of that contest is scheduled for noon. Notre Dame will visit Assumption and Corpus Christi will take on Nelson in other Tier 1 action tomorrow. -- Jon Kuiperij can be followed on Twitter @Beaversports FUTURE SHOP CORRECTION NOTICE NEWSPAPER RETRACTION FOR THE FUTURE SHOP SEPTEMBER 7 CORPORATE FLYER Please be advised that this movie: Titanic, shown on the September 7 flyer, page 13, is NOT available for rent on CinemaNow.com as previously advertised.
