They will auction the bowls as part of their Empty Bowls fundraiser to raise money for Home Suite Hope, which provides housing for homeless families. Mary Bedard brought a homemade Olympic flag to be signed. The flag hung at Central West Specialized Development Services, where Bedard works, and was a focal point during the daily discussions about the Olympics with its special needs clients. "It was totally worth it," Bedard said of waiting 90 minutes for autographs. "I was ecstatic, I was shaking. It was so great to meet them after all they've done for our community and our country." Inspiration is a two-way street, though. Matheson told the crowd how fans helped reenergize the Canadian women's soccer team prior to the bronze-medal game. "We were physically and emotionally shattered (after the semifinal loss to the U.S.). We thought we were going to win, which made it so much worse when we didn't," Matheson said. "Our coach, John Herdman, put together a bunch of Twitter quotes and Facebook posts of people thanking us. That helped us get over the U.S. game and get us ready for France (in the bronze-medal game)." The current Olympians also remembered what is was like for them to be inspired. "Seeing Larry Cain in the crowd, that was a big thing for me," said Jones, who shook hands with the 1984 Olympic canoeing gold medallist during the parade. "He was my sporting hero. To see all the kids today, everything's come full circle. If I can be a part of inspiring them, that's fantastic." -- Herb Garbutt can be followed on Twitter @Herbgarbutt At the Casablanca Winery Inn, Grimsby Friday, September 21st, 2012 9:00 5:00 Many say that this is the best time of life.
