www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, September 26, 2012 · 10 Outlook on a life is all about faith perspectives Continued from page 9 "People call me the scary optimist just because of what I've been through, I have a different perspective on things. I almost died from it twice. I had two brain hemorrhages. Because I almost died, I realized life is short. You have to learn to enjoy it while you have it." Soon after her second incident, White began fundraising for AVM research as well as trying to make people smile more. It evolved into the Positivity Project. Part of the initiative has her spreading positivity just as the high school students did on Monday. "I got myself a bucket of sidewalk paint and started going around neighbourhoods and took one square of sidewalk and decorated the heck out of it with positivity," she said. She would leave and later come back and watch and listen as people commented on her work. Last year, she approached her former high school and received support from Aquinas' chaplain, Brian Dunn, thus starting the initia- tive at the school. "As chaplain, I'm here to promote positive faith development," he said. "This is a perfect opportunity for students to see how faith meets life and how we can see things through the eyes of faith." He said the students used a variety of quotes, from music and other art forms. "I think this is an expression of who they are and I think faith is an expression of who they are. So if they can make that link, I think it's important to see that," he added. Furthermore, he said the initiative is enjoyable for the students and it doesn't take long for students to spread positivity using chalk on a sidewalk. The shelter was recently named a selected charity for the new fundraiser The Little Grape That Could. The program was founded by Brett Preston and his father as a way to generate funds for Ontario charities. Working with Canadian wine experts and Argentinean vineyards, they've developed a red and white wine sold at LCBO stores for $11.95. Each bottle has an individual code on the back, as well as the program website, www.thelittlegrapethatcould. com. Purchasers are asked to visit the website and click on `Choose a Charity' on the homepage. From there you can insert the code from the bottle and choose from a list of charities -- including the humane society -- which will receive a portion of the proceeds. Any undesignated proceeds (sold bottles with un-accessed codes) will be distributed among the selected list of charities every six months. "We are thrilled to be included in this fundraising initiative," said Brenda Dushko, spokesperson for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. "We will be able to help many, many animals through the generosity of Brett and his team at The Little Grape That Could." Wine buyers are also invited to `raise a glass' to an individual or group, nominating them to be featured on the back of a bottle. The humane society has nominated Mea -- the neglected dog whose story made Canadian case law. "She (Mea) is still waiting for her forever home, and we hope that by nominating her we will draw attention to the fact that she's still part of our shelter family," said Dushko. "We are hoping that local restaurants will start to feature this great wine... for a great cause," said Dushko. Raise a glass for the local animal shelter
