www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, September 27, 2012 · 4 Safe Start nets too many tickets Vigilance needed to keep students safe Halton motorists received a serious reminder to drive carefully around school zones this month with Halton police issuing nearly 2,000 tickets across the region during Project Safe Start. The enforcement and education blitz, which sees police focus on traffic violations in school zones between Sept. 4-14, saw 475 provincial offence notices issued in Oakville alone. Ticket numbers were higher in Burlington with 653 provincial offence notices issued and higher still in Milton, Georgetown and Acton where a combined 752 notices were issued. "Road safety is an ongoing priority across the region," said Halton Police Deputy Chief Bob Percy. "The focus of the Safe Start program is to serve as a reminder to motorists that school is back in and they need to remain vigilant to keep our children safe." Halton police, who continue to site traffic violations and speeding to be problematic in the region, reported speeding, seatbelt infractions, and distracted driving were the most common violations.
