Man sought in armed robbery of east-end pharmacy By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Halton police are looking for a suspect following the armed robbery of Kingsway Pharmacy, located at 2828 Kingsway Dr., Thursday. Police said the incident began at around 11:30 a.m., when a man approached the pharmacy counter, pointed a gun at the pharmacist and demanded drugs, including the painkiller Oxycodone. The pharmacist provided the man with around 2,000 pills of various narcotics, at which point the man fled the store, got into a creamcoloured Cadillac Escalade bearing California licence plates and drove off. No one was harmed during the robbery. Police said this is one of the first pharmacy robberies for Oxycodone in the area since the legislated introduction of OxyNEO in March. Manufacturers say OxyNEO is much more difficult to misuse or abuse. "OxyNEO cannot be crushed to the point where it can be snorted or injected. We are certain he probably made off with OxyNEO, but we are doing an inventory right now," said Det. Sgt. Anthony Odoardi of the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau. "Our pharmacy robberies have gone way down. There have been other pharmacy robberies around for other types of drugs, but not necessarily for Oxy." The suspect is described as a white male, 20-30 years of age, 5-foot8 to 5-foot-10, possibly with a goatee, wearing a grey sweater and sunglasses. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident and anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-8254747, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 9 · Wednesday, October 3, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Police say suspicious package nothing but a drum Halton police said a suspicious package found just outside their headquarters at 1151 Bronte Rd., Monday morning, turned out to be nothing but a drum. At approximately 7 a.m., a security guard discovered the package in a parking lot on the north side of the building, which serves as Halton Regional Police Service Headquarters as well as the Region of Halton offices. As a precaution, a significant portion of the property on the north side of the building was cordoned off to await members of the Halton Police Explosives Disposal Unit. The Explosives Disposal Unit examined the bag and quickly determined it did not contain a bomb, but merely a musical instrument -- a drum. Police are attempting to locate the owner of the drum.
