CARSON, William James- Died peacefully at his home in Sydney, Nova Scotia February 7th. Bill's great grandfather was the Reverend James Nesbitt who came from Scotland with his family settling in Oakville Ontario 1845. He attended theological college in Toronto and was the first minister at Knox Presbyterian church in Oakville, 1850-1860. Then he joined the Reverend John Black in Kildonan Manitoba to do missionary work. Reverend Nesbitt's wife, new baby and her sister travelled 500 miles by ox cart to the Northwest Territories to work among the Indian people. He founded and named the place they settled in Prince Albert after the consort of Queen Victoria. In the late 1860's Reverend Nesbitt returned to Kildonan where he and his wife died within a week of each other. Their four children were sent to Reverend Nesbitt's family in Oakville. Bill was very proud of his mother's family history and his father's family who also came from Scotland in the 1800's and settled in Oakville. They were carpenters by trade building some of the wonderful old homes in Oakville as well as the Oakville Trafalgar High School now a heritage building. Bill was a veteran of the Second World War like his father who had served in the First World War. Bill leaves his wife Jane, his children Jillian Carson Jackson and her husband Paul Jackson of Australia, his daughter Mary and husband Danny Lozinski of Ajax, his son Reverend Warren Vollmer and wife Susan of Lakefield and grandchildren: Andrew and Elizabeth Jackson of Australia; Rachel and Sarah Vollmer of Lakefield and close cousins Michael Carson of Bracebridge and Barbara Gennrich nee Carson of Oakville. A funeral service was held in Sydney Nova Scotia Saturday February 10th. Bill's son Warren conducted the service and his daughter Mary gave the eulogy. A memorial service will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville where Bill and Jane attended with their children over the many years. Bill is predeceased by his father and mother Hugh and Bella Carson nee Bacon and step mother Susannah May Carson nee Cuttell as well as his uncles Howard, Dewart and Carl Carson. Bill is dearly missed by all his family and friends and will always be remembered with love.
