Parking just got easier at the Oakville GO By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Residents who want to take the GO Train to work should now have an easier time getting to it thanks to Friday's opening of a new $41.1 million parking garage at the Oakville GO Station. The six-storey structure provides 1,000 new parking spaces to the station, which is swamped daily by an estimated 5,500 commuters. Prior to the construction of the new parking facility finding a parking space at the Oakville GO Station could prove next to impossible, particularly for those who arrived following the morning rush hour. The provincial and federal governments are funding the project with each contributing up to $20.55 million. "Our government's top priority is the economy -- that's why we are continuing to invest in infrastructure projects that create jobs and economic growth, and improve public transit in the GTA," said Lisa Raitt, Halton MP and Minister of Labour. Raitt, along with MP Terence Young, MPP Kevin Flynn, Mayor Rob Burton and GO Transit President Gary McNeil, cut the ribbon at the parking garage, officially opening it to commuters.
