OT one win away from return trip to OFSAA Continued from page 26 Slow start to PWHL campaign for Hornets Six games into the Provincial Women's Hockey League season, the Oakville Hornets are still in search of their first victory. Oakville dropped to 0-5-1 with three losses in as many days last weekend. The Hornets were blanked 5-0 by Toronto Friday, fell 4-1 to Stoney Creek Saturday and were edged 3-2 by Toronto Sunday. Friday and Saturday's games were played at Joshua's Creek Arenas, with Sunday's affair contested in Toronto. The Hornets didn't help their own cause Friday, being whistled for 17 penalties and surrendering three power-play goals. Saturday, the Hornets were limited to a second-period marker from Heather Platt as the Sabres outshot Oakville 39-17. Camille Leonard made 35 saves for Oakville in the loss. Sunday in Toronto, Hayley Scamurra and Amanda Pereira scored goals 2:13 apart to give Oakville a 2-1 lead in the second period, but the Aeros tied the game before the end of the frame and then notched the winner 4:13 into the third. Kierra Lambertucci stopped 38 of 41 shots she faced for the Hornets, who managed 16 shots of their own. Oakville isn't scheduled to see league action again until Thursday, Nov. 1, when the Hornets visit the Burlington Barracudas. 27 · Wednesday, October 24, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com would not allow the equalizer, however. Though the win did not lock up a trip to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament for the Red Devils, it was still important. The top four Halton teams and the top two Hamilton Catholic teams now play for the region's two spots in the OFSAA tournament. The Halton title gives OT a bye, meaning it needs to win just one game to advance to provincials. "Our main goal is to get to OFSAA and get a medal," said Grist. For Grade 11 players like Grist, they want to experience what their teammates did last year. But for those in their final year, they want to win it all. "A medal is a big incentive for us," Grist said. "For the Grade 12s, they're so passionate, we want to help them win gold." The Red Devils will host the winner of Notre Dame and St. Mary's tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 p.m. If victorious tomorrow, OT would be assured an OFSAA berth but would still play the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference final Friday for seeding purposes. -- Herb Garbutt can be followed on Twitter @Herbgarbutt NOT WASTING ANY TIME: The Oakville atom AE Rangers won the Markham Waxers Early Bird Tournament earlier this season, whipping their four opponents by a combined score of 30-3.
