After months of delays, Town council voted unanimously Monday, to sign the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)'s Charitable Gaming Centre Municipality Agreement (CGCMA), which will permit the introduction "I was not looking of e-Bingo at Oakville's forward to only bingo hall. Cam Johnstone, shutting down the owner of Oakville Delta hall, so I am Bingo warned he would ecstatic over the be closing the hall today way things have (Oct. 31), if the agreement was not signed, worked out." stating it was essential for the revitalization of Cam Johnstone, Delta Bingo his business. Johnstone said the signing of the agreement was not only good for him, but also for his 40 employees, who will get to keep their jobs, and for the 34 local charities, that raise upwards of $750,000 in revenue at the bingo hall annually. "I'm very pleased," said Johnstone. "I was very concerned, I was not looking forward to shutting down the hall, so I am ecstatic over the way things have worked out." Members of council had been and continue to be troubled by numerous aspects of the CGCMA -- as See E-Bingo page 14 JAYSON MILLS / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER / @halton_photog collateral damage: Oakville firefighters battle a car fire that broke out in the driveway of a home on Galloway Drive Monday night. The high winds from what was left of Hurricane Sandy saw the flames quickly spread to another vehicle and a residence. No one was injured and the trio of blazes was quickly extinguished. Sandy fanned flames and cut power By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF While there was no shortage of damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Sandy Monday night, officials say Oakville got off fairly easily. Halton Regional Police and the Oakville Fire Department reported no injuries as a result of the storm in Oakville. "Other than the typical trees down and branches down everywhere, we had some minor power disruptions here in Oakville that were short-lived," said Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn. "Other than that, there was surprisingly little damage across the municipality. So we were pretty lucky considering what happened down in the States and New York City." A car fire that broke out around 2 a.m. Monday on Galloway Drive was made considerably worse by the storm's high winds, said Glynn. The car was parked in the driveway of a home when the flames ignited and the wind caused them to quickly engulf the car and spread to a second vehicle in the driveway, Glynn said. The winds also blew the flames at the house causing it to catch fire. Firefighters were able to get it under control quickly. "There was relatively minor damage to the home, but they did have smoke throughout the house," said Glynn.
