KISS introduced him to horror A Secret Cross plays at festival Continued from page 28 29 · Friday, October 26, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com So when he took over the reins to Fangoria three years ago, his first order of business was to write a cover story about Simmons, a monsters and horror aficionado himself. The pair spent a day in Simmon's Hollywood home talking about monsters and they maintained a dialogue ever since. So when KISS was producing its latest album, Alexander was given the task of producing an accompanying magazine. A second one is already in the works. All these things are dreams come true for Alexander, who read Fangoria ever since he was a child. "I've always read Fangoria. It was like my gateway drug as a child. It was up on the stands and I'd save up my money and it was a big adventure for me to read these magazines and it opened me up to a weird, arcane, counter-culture," he said. "To take it over is like an impossible dream. Suddenly, you're given the keys and you want to make it exactly the magazine you wanted to read as a kid." There were several reasons why Alexander was so fascinated by horror films. He said he loved the colours of the films, how Baroque they were and how bizarre they were. They gave him nightmares and he was afraid of them. "But I intellectualized it at a very young age and wondered why I was afraid of it and submitted screenshot for blood: Actor Shauna Henry, as Irina, is the star of Blood for Irina, about a predator who stalks the streets looking for blood. I had to keep confronting it," he said. "Every time I confronted it, I kind of appreciated it more." Horror fans look for films that will scare them, though at Alexander's age that's hard to find. However, there are things that do. Now that he's a parent, he said he can't endure films in which children are harmed. "Horror films are very therapeutic. You can deal with a lot of follies of the human condition through the fantasy of horror movies," he said.
