Dr. E. Anne Braun, associate clinical professor at the departments of medicine and psychiatry at McMaster University, will speak on Depression in the Elderly -- Why Should You Care. Braum, who lives in Oakville, is the medical director of geriatric medicine and complex continuing care at Brantford General Hospital and Brantford Community Health Centre. She is also a consultant for St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton and Hamilton Health Sciences. Braum has been involved in research on a number of geriatric conditions, including dementia, osteoporosis and late onset psychiatric disturbances. Early in her medical training, Braun noticed older patients accepted chronic illness and depression as normal aspects of the aging process, however, they are not. The event is at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd. Registration and cash bar open at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers or $20 for students.
