A Secret Cross wins big at Moving Image Film Festival By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A Secret Cross made by Oakville filmmaker Anthony Tullo has picked up the festival grand prize at this year's Moving Image Film Festival. The psychological thriller won the best feature film showcase at the Nov. 2-4 festival. "My expectations were that it would do very well, but winning, it didn't enter my mind," Tullo said of the victory. Tullo wrote the film, produced it and starred in it. It is about a farmer who notices a stranger, played by Jeff Joslin, appearing around his property. Twists and turns happen along the way as Tullo's character begins to unravel what is happening around him. Tullo has been acting for some time, with roles here and there. However, he said things truly began looking up when he decided to make his own film. "I worked very hard for years to get to this point, but I've always taken the route of being an actor, and sort of staying there. Things changed for me dramatically when I decided to take things in my own hands and write my own film and do my own film. Then everything has changed," he said. The film has also received two awards at the Los Angeles Movie Awards. "The accolades from this are pretty tremendous and I'm totally honoured, surprised," Tullo said. Now that the film has been receiving the warm reception that it is, Tullo has been getting a number of movie job offers. "Whenever you win, it makes things a little easier," he said. Despite taking many of the filmmaking tasks on himself, Tullo said none of the accolades would have happened if it weren't for the people around him. "I think if I did something right, I surrounded myself and hired the right people to be around me to get the best possible work I could get with the very little that I had," he said. The song Darlington, which appears in the film, is also on his upcoming country-rock album, From Darkness to Light.
