Property values up 21 per cent By Julia Le METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP Residential property values have increased by an average of about 20.3 per cent in Halton since 2008, says John Daly, a municipal relations representative with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). As a result, homeowners in Halton will see the determined value of their houses rise an average five per cent each year for four years. The not-for-profit corporation, funded by all Ontario municipalities to administer a uniform, province-wide property assessment system based on current values, states market increases in assessed value between Jan. 1, 2008 and Jan. 1, 2012 are being phased in from 2013-16. Daly said homeowners in Oakville will see an increase of 5.2 per cent per year based on residential property values, which have risen by about 21.1 per cent. Burlington will see an increase of five per cent per year based on a 20 per cent increase and Halton Hills and Milton have seen residential property values increase by approximately 17.9 per cent and 20.1 per cent, respectively. Since 2008, waterfront property values have jumped by about 21.1 per cent and farmland in Halton has increased significantly. Property owners will see an average increase of about 18.4 per cent.
