www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 16, 2012 · 8 Salvation Army warns of phony canvassers The Salvation Army is warning local residents to be aware of recent reports about unauthorized canvassers, as the organization launches its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. The well-known charitable organization has received numerous reports of individuals soliciting donations door-todoor allegedly on behalf of The Salvation Army in the communities of Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton. "The Salvation Army is highly visible at this time of year with our Christmas Kettles in malls and retails stores, so we do not conduct a door-to-door canvass," Major Gary Brown, spokesperson for The Salvation Army Ontario Great Lakes Division, stated in a press release. "We ask residents to be wary, and immediately contact authorities if they are solicited at the door." There are numerous authorized ways for residents to legitimately support The Salvation Army, including: · donating to any Christmas Kettle (pictured at left) located in local shopping areas · dropping off or mailing donations to the Salvation Army church in the community · donating to the Kettle Campaign online at www. fillthekettle.com · calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) · sending a $5 text donation: texting HOPE4024 to 45678 for Oakville; HOPE4001 to 45678 for Burlington; or HOPE4013 to 45678 for Hamilton.
