Mr. Movember sells cookies to fight for the cause Continued from page 3 7 · Thursday, November 29, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com month, they can be uncomfortable for a moment to talk to their doctors about prostate cancer. Earlier this month, Desmarais gave a 10-minute speech at a school in Mississauga, as part of the school's Me to We events. Furthermore, he's been selling mustache-shaped gingerbread cookies to help raise money. He's not alone selling the cookies. He recruited his younger brother, Bennett, and classmate Jacob Clyde to help bake and sell the cookies. They also got help and financial support from mom Diane. Each Monday, they sold cookies at school during lunch period. On Saturdays, Thomas and Bennett, 10, sold cookies at hockey arenas (River Oaks and Joshuas Creek) and on Sundays at church (Munn's United). Bennett, calling himself manager for the initiative, has already followed in his older brother's footsteps. He doesn't wear mustaches, but he and his friend from hockey, Sam St. James, have raised $500 for the Canadian Cancer Society and they walked across Oakville. "I feel great because I've heard stories of lots of other people having cancer, so after I heard he was going to start this, I was very excited to help," Bennet said. Flynn confirms he will run again Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn confirmed Tuesday, he will seek a fourth term as Oakville's MPP by running as the Liberal candidate in the next provincial election. This means Flynn will once again face off against Larry Scott who was confirmed last week as Oakville's Progressive Conservative candidate. "I think we've got a lot to be proud of here in Oakville and I haven't seen a whole lot coming from the opposition parties that would lead me to believe they've got any better ideas," said Flynn. "I think if you look at the reforms we've been able to implement over the past 10 years, there's a brand new hospital coming to Oakville, we've widened the QEW, we've got full-time learning now for three and fouryear-olds in almost all the schools, the best public education system in the Englishspeaking world. Even with the petro dollar, Ontario is still the engine of the Canadian economy, which is doing quite well thanks to Ontario and its job creation over the past number of years." Flynn also said he has no intention of seeking the Liberal leadership position, which was vacated by the departure of Premier Dalton McGuinty last month. That said, Flynn has yet to decide who he will throw his support behind. "I'm not looking for my favourite Liberal. What I'm looking for is a leader. I'm looking for someone who rises above the fray of a typical leadership review and speaks to the people of Ontario about how we can continue to move forward," said Flynn. "I probably won't decide until somebody impresses me. Right now they are all starting from the same place. "They've all said they want the job and they've told me they'd do a good job if they were elected leader. I need more than that," said Flynn. In the 2011 provincial election Flynn bested Scott by more than 4,000 votes. Burlington HOLIDAY SPECIAL TABLE & 4 CHAIRS NOW $1999.99 REG $3599 NOW available at... GLUCKSTEINHOME 4 collections!
