Residents are invited to celebrate Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, on Monday, Dec. 10 at the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre at 1051 Glenashton Dr. This year, Hanukkah is Dec. 8-16. "It is a holiday that propagates the universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness," Residents invited to Jewish Festival of Lights Dec. 10 Rabbi Yitzchok Slavin, director of the Chabad Jewish Discovery Centre. "In ancient times, our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem with the Menorah. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place." The Dec. 10 event begins at 6 p.m. with the kindling of a nine-foot branched candelabra, Menorah of Freedom, and will also feature Hanukkah gifts and treats, a clown, music, children's crafts, face-painting, balloons, and a light buffet dinner -- admission costs $5 and all participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for redistribution to Oakville food banks. Hanukkah is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah on each night of the holiday. 13 · Wednesday, December 5, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com "The Hanukkah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength and inspiration, and that's the purpose of a community-wide Menorah kindling celebration," stated Slavin. She was only three weeks old when Lexie suddenly stopped breathing in my arms. Within seconds, my beautiful, healthy baby turned blue and I was frantic. Once she was in the emergency department, the doctors and nurses took over and diagnosed Lexie with a respiratory virus. She was in the hospital for a week with monitors and oxygen devices helping her breathe, but today she is a healthy and proud big sister to her brother Liam thanks to the life-saving equipment in our hospital. Each and every year, our hospital needs hundreds of pieces of new equipment that will improve the lives of all of us here in Oakville. Every piece is critical and every piece needs to be funded by our community. It all starts here with your help. Please give generously.
