The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar will chair the program this year and has budgeted 13 $1,000 Bursaries for deserving students. The Rotary Club of Oakville will also contribute bursary funding as will the Rotary Club of Oakville West, which, in addition, allocates funds for scholarship awards. Applications will be sought early in the new year with the assistance of the high school guidance councillors at all Oakville Public and Catholic secondary schools. Encourage your students to check out this opportunity for financial support of their post-secondary education. The process will culminate in the Education Awards Dinner in late May 2013. ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE Interact Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Currently, Oakville has two Interact Clubs: one at Thomas A. Blakelock High School and one at Iroquois Ridge High School. Projects by these two clubs include Teas for Seniors, Health and Recreation Day for Single Parent Families and providing linens for the Oakville Humane Society. As well, there are Christmas Wonders with Kerr Street Ministries, a Christmas toy drive for elementary children and fundraising for Shelterbox. A number of Interactors have also travelled to the Dominican Republic to help to rebuild schools. It is a great way to generate the forty hours of community service needed to graduate from high school. ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE WEST (RCOW) Rotaract Club of Oakville January 6, 2012, was the inaugural Charter night for the new Oakville Rotaract Club sponsored by RCOW. In the short time that these young people between the ages of 18-30 have teamed up for community service, they have accomplished a great deal. Where else can you host fun events like `Prom Dress Soccer' where people come dressed in their wackiest and tackiest prom dresses to play a fun game of soccer and donate school supplies for children who couldn't afford these items? Where else can you deliver used soccer uniforms to the Philippines and see children's big smiles in the photographs they took to show their excitement? Where else do you hold a `Yoga Marathon' taught by the best yoga instructors where participants have fun and donate medical kits to the Dominican Republic? Here at the Rotaract Club of Oakville, we give you the opportunity to actually make a difference in people's lives. Sometimes it just takes a few people to take a stance and make a change. By offering help to those in need - no matter how big or small - we become these change-makers. This is what Rotary and Rotaract is all about.
