www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, December 19, 2012 · 4 Giving the gift of good health... Each and every year, our hospital needs hundreds of pieces of new equipment that will improve the lives of all of us here in Oakville. Every piece is critical and every piece needs to be funded by our community. We are grateful that the following organizations answered the call. Scotiabank's $500,000 Donation Benefits Mental Health Program Thank you to Scotiabank for helping improve the lives of people living with mental illness in our community. The $500,000 donation will greatly enhance the mental health services and programs offered in the new Hospital. "Through our Bright Future philanthropic program, Scotiabank is proud to support Halton Healthcare Services' Mental Health Program," said Oliver Uppal, District Vice President of GTA, Mississauga and Oakville for Scotiabank. "Healthcare is an important focus of our giving and we are pleased to invest in this important new mental health program that will support individuals and their families." In recognition of their generous donation, the Adult Mental Health Outpatient Day Program in the new Oakville Hospital facility will be named in honour of Scotiabank. Thank you to Glen Abbey United Church for helping fund the Complex Continuing Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation Units at the new Oakville Hospital. The units will provide a range of services for patients that are medically complex, those in need of low intensity rehab and a longer hospital stay, and those in need of respite. "There is great synergy between communities of faith and caring places like hospitals," said John Fleming, Chair of the Board of Directors of Halton Healthcare Services. "I am so proud that my church home has been able to live its philosophy of service and outreach to community with this remarkable gift for longer term continuing care and senior patients in the new Oakville Hospital." Thank you to Motoaki Aoki and his restaurant Mye Japanese for generously donating $100,000 to help equip the new Oakville Hospital. Twenty-five years ago, Motoaki "Mo" Aoki, Mye owner and executive chef, marked two major events in his life -- the birth of his youngest child at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the opening of his Japanese restaurant, Mye. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of both, Aoki pledged to give 100 per cent of the restaurant sales from a week in October to the new Oakville Hospital. "Over the past 25 years, the community of Oakville has contributed to Mye's ongoing growth and success through its patronage," said Aoki. "This is just a small thing to do to repay the community and the hospital that has been so good to me and my family."
