I also learned more about what ALS is, and how it affects the people who have it and the people around them. The reason I raised this money was because my birthday fell only a few months after my grandmother passed away. I thought the thing I would want the most was for fewer people to suffer from ALS like my grandmother. In the middle of last year, I sent in the $275. The company my dad works at does donation matches and has matched the amount I donated last year, which is enclosed with this letter. The total amount of money I ended up raising was $550. I am donating this money for use towards research, public awareness and support for people living with ALS. I don't want other people to suffer like my grandmother did. The disease shut down my kidneys and put me in a coma for 15 days and in the Intensive Care Unit for two months. If it wasn't for the life-saving equipment in our hospital, I would not be here today.
