Westlakes donate $500,000 to new hospital By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Oakville's Jim and Deborah Westlake have donated $500,000 to the new Oakville hospital, currently under construction on Dundas Street at Third Line. "It's always good to give back to the community," Jim said. "Oakville has developed a very unique spot in terms of livability and quality of life and I think if everybody does their part to build on that, it will help keep it that way." The Westlakes, who have lived in Oakville for the past 17 years, have a long history of supporting charitable organizations, including hospitals, universities, children's associations, the United Way and local Oakville causes. Deborah also has a family history of supporting hospitals. Her grandfather was chair of the board of the Campbellford hospital, where she is originally from. The Westlakes are long-time supporters of Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) in particular and have held fundraisers for the hospital in their own home, as well as for the United Way of Oakville and for Home Suite Hope. And now seemed like an appropriate time to make a major contribution to the hospital, said Jim. "With the new hospital going up, it just seemed like the timing was good," he explained, noting, anyone considering making a significantly substantial gift could do so now when the hospital foundation is working hard to raise as much as it can. Jim recently retired from the RBC and spent his entire career life working in the financial services field. Jim and Deborah raised four children and a year ago they had a grandchild born at OTMH. Fully accessible, it will be located on the east side of the hospital and have direct access to the cafeteria.
